Sr. Rosa Leggol, OSF, founder of Sociedad Amigos de los Niños dies at age 94
We mourn the loss of Sr. Rosa. This extraordinary woman died on October 16, 2020 at the age of 94. Her love for children led her to establish an organization devoted to the care of thousands of orphans, abandon children and babies in her impoverished country of Honduras. As a young nun she found children on the streets and pleaded with people to care for them. The overwhelming numbers of these children inspired her to form an organization named Sociedad Amigos de los Niños to extend what she could do as one person. Today “Sociedad” has children’s villages, schools, a medical clinic, and other support facilities all dedicated to providing needy children with a pathway to a future. Sister’s children learn love of self, love of God and acquire the skills necessary for a chance of success in life that was denied them when they were born into poverty or neglect.
Fortunately, Sr. Rosa had the foresight to develop her organization, Sociedad Amigos de los Niños into an effective social services group with a local Board of Directors and skilled managers that will carry on her work.
The Honduran Children’s Rescue Fund was established in 2003. Our primary purpose is “Funding for Sociedad Amigos de los Niños”. This does not change. We will continue our dedication to this most worthy cause, the children in the care of an organization started by one young nun with a dream she turned into reality.
Rest in the Arms of God, Rosa.
